Federal Tax Reform - What Happens Next?

Written by Ryan Maxson, Vice President of Government and Public Affairs | Nov 22, 2017 10:34:17 PM

Tax Reform Proposal Was Recently Approved By the House of Representatives.

On November 16, the House of Representatives approved H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, by a vote of 227 to 205. This took place depite significant opposition from REALTORS(R) from throughout the country. Here's how our San Diego area Congressional Representatives voted on the proposal:

Member of Congress Congressional District Vote on H.R. 1
Darrell Issa CA-49 No
Duncan Hunter CA-50 Yes
Juan Vargas CA-51 No
Scott Peters CA-52 No
Susan Davis CA-53 No

The complete vote tally can be found on the website for the Clerk of the House of Representatives, found here

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Our focus now shifts over to the Senate where their version of the tax reform proposal was recently approved by the Finance Committee. The bill is expected to be voted on shortly after the Thanksgiving break. If approved by the Senate, a Conference Committee consisting of members from the House and Senate will likely convene to negotiate on the different provisions in the two bills.

Key differences between the House and Senate proposals can be found here.

WHAT ABOUT THE CALL-FOR-ACTION? The Call-for-Action continues and REALTORS(R) are asked to now contact their representatives in the U.S. Senate.
