Background:

San Diego Regional Task Force on the Homeless - Gordon Walker

In June of this year, the San Diego Regional Task Force on the Homeless announced the selection of Gordon Walker to serve as the organization's CEO. Walker will oversee an operation tasked with, among other things, collecting data and making policy recommendations regarding the San Diego region's homeless population. He will be proving an update on the ongoing efforts to address homelessness in San Diego and mitigate the spread of Hepatitis A.

In his prior role as the director of the Division of Housing and Community Development in Utah,

Walker was credited with successfully leading an effort to drastically reduce homelessness in the state. During his tenure from 2005-2015, the chronic homeless population decreased by 91 percent, from 1,932 to 178 individuals. Although some argue the numbers may not be entirely accurate due to inconsistent counting practices, as discussed here.

Open Doors - Matt Hurd

Matt Hurd from Open Doors of Atlanta, Georgia will be discussing the work their organization does in Atlanta to help house their population of homeless. The Open Doors Program connects owners of multi-family properties with a group of prescreened tenants in need of housing. The organization has helped to house more than 4,000 individuals over the past 3 years.
