Advertising can be critical to any successful real estate practice. Considering the abundance of marketing strategies available, REALTORS® need to be aware of the legal and ethical restrictions they face regarding advertising. REALTORS should also make sure that any marketing professional they hire knows the nuances of these specific rules very well.
Beginning January 1, 2018, a new set of advertising standards will go into effect. The purpose of these new regulations is to create uniform standards for advertising that can be applied across a variety of media and types. In short, the new laws expand the content required on all first point of contact solicitation materials.
All first point of contact solicitation materials must include:
- The name of the licensee.
- The responsible broker’s identity
- The status of the agent, such as REALTOR® or agent
